For students interested in exploring opportunities in aviation, GlobalAir.com has started accepting applications for their Calvin L. Carrithers Aviation Scholarship. The scholarship is being offered to students who are US citizens, enrolled in an accredited university or college aviation program during the 2016-2017 school year, and interested in blogging about their training.

Students from across the nation have benefitted from the scholarship program since it was started in 2014. In the previous year, students from the University of North Dakota, Eastern Kentucky University and Florida Institute of Technology benefitted from the scholarship.

Details on the Calvin L. Carrithers Aviation Scholarship

The scholarship, awarded to four students, offers $1000, paid out twice a semester in $250 increments. If picked to receive the scholarship, students agree to blog about their experiences during their flight training, aviation / airport management or related studies. The blog posts would be expected on a weekly basis, throughout the school year, and would need to be at least 200 – 500 words. Global Air hopes that the posts will help inspire others either already in the field of aviation or interested in exploring a career in aviation.

Jeff Carrithers, the President and CEO of GlobalAir.com, had this to say about the program, “We are ecstatic with the results of the scholarship program these past two years. It is so very clear that our industry is in need of additional aviation professionals. We initially offered the program to pilots, but quickly realized that there are many aviation professions we didn’t even consider until we reviewed applicant essays. Last year’s recipients were two pilots and two airport management students.

For those interested in applying for the Calvin L. Carrithers Aviation Scholarship, you can head over to Global Air’s website. You will need to complete an application form, provide a short essay explaining your career path, and provide a letter of recommendation. Scholarship recipients will be chosen after a careful review of all the applicants, and will be notified of their winning in mid-August. The application deadline is August 10th.
